School Safety and Emergency

How we communicate Information during an emergency or crisis:

Reliability of communications is subject to availability of electricity, internet and cellular service. Localized or wide-scale power outages and/or phone/internet outages may affect District communications.

Emergency information is announced via:

District Web site (Center of homepage, under announcements)

School Messenger (automated phone call to parents/guardians with information)

Local radio and TV

In high-level emergencies, the on-scene authority will be local law enforcement and/or emergency services, and the District will work with those agencies in terms of coordination and communication. Our objective is frequent, clear and precise communication during an emergency situation with parents/guardians, the community and the media.

Parent-Child Reunification information, if needed, will be communicated via School Messenger phone call system

Parent/Guardians regarding School Messenger: An emergency card is sent home annually to be filled out by parents/guardians with instructions for it to be sent back to your child's school. We use this information to contact you. School Messenger is a phone call out system with which the District and Principals can contact all parents directly. School Messenger may also be used in non-emergency situations to contact you about school news, updates, Food Services accounts and attendance.
For snow/weather/water main break delays/closings affecting some or ALL buildings, refer first to local local media.

Local broadcast media includes WETM 18 News, WENY-TV, Time Warner News and WINK 106.1 FM and Magic FM 97.7 FM.

For the media, our communications process:

The District will establish a communications staging area during a high-level emergency, either at the District offices (165 Charles St., Painted Post, NY 14870) or near the site of the emergency. Please contact Bill Cameron, Public Information Coordinator (607) 654-2721 or bcameron@cppmail.com for information during an emergency. During an emergency, law enforcement or emergency services are the control at a scene - the District will work with them on communications.
