Two CPPHS students were honored by the CPP Board of Education at the March meeting for outstanding achievements. Nishant Lahiri was honored for scientific innovation and application and his work as a Science Talent Search (STS) Scholar. Gyasi Ruffin, the 2023 State Champion for 600 meter Indoor Track was also honored by the Board of Education.
Coach Joe Melanson said, “Since arriving as a freshman, Gyasi has worked tirelessly for this state title. In fact, in a journal entry as a sophomore he wrote ‘After today's workout I think I know what I want to do, I want to be a state champion in the 600 meter.’ Since the start of Indoor Track, Gyasi has broken school records in the 300 and 600 meter and qualified for states in the 300, 600 and 4x400. Gyasi broke his own school record in the 600 meter and became the NYS Public High School Champion as he set out to do. He never stopped working towards that goal. I couldn't be happier for a more deserving individual!”
Congratulations Gyasi!
IB Diploma Coordinator Kristie Gates-Radford said, “Nishant, is a senior IB Diploma candidate at CPPHS, and was named one of 300 national finalists in the Regeneron Science Talent Search. His research in the field of carbon capture and its applicability to the modern home was conducted at Cornell University. Recently, IB's communications team reached out to me and asked to feature Nishant on IB's website as a Diploma Programme candidate who is putting his critical thinking, investigatory, and writing skills to work outside of the classroom.” She added, “Nishant is also a Coca-Cola Scholarship winner. This scholarship is the most prestigious merit-based scholarship in our country.”
Congratulations Nishant!
