Chromatic Connections: Corning-Painted Post High School Elective Art Student Exhibition

Students enrolled in elective arts courses at Corning-Painted Post High School created mixed-media pieces inspired by artwork in The Rockwell Museum’s collection. Students used their imagination to explore the many facets of how art can tell a story. On Wednesday, a Student Exhibition Reception was held for family and friends.

This program was in collaboration with Corning-Painted Post High School art teachers Wendy Brubaker, Maria Goldwyn and Birgitt Wolf Peterson.

From the Rockwell website: "The Rockwell values collaborating with the local high school to cultivate a deeper appreciation and understanding of arts and culture with the students in our region. By exposing students to the arts and providing an opportunity for students to create and exhibit their own art at The Rockwell, we aim to inspire and empower the next generation of youth."

Central to the process is that students experiment with media, design, color, artistic processes and techniques for their individual creations. They learn to be intentional in their artistic choices, and are encouraged to question why they were drawn to specific works of art and why they chose to explore certain techniques.

At the reception, Rockwell Museum Executive Director Erin Coe, who previously was the director of the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State and started at The Rockwell this month, spoke to the students and said student engagement with an art museum is a defining experience of their education. She said it leads to careers in art or careers related to the arts. She also acknowledged the positive impact of the high level engagement the Rockwell has with our students, teachers and community and thanked her education team at the Rockwell, specifically Amy Ruza and Mary Mix. She said, "Students thrive when they are involved with their community art museum."

The CPPHS student art in this exhibit is on display at the Rockwell Museum through March 2nd.
