Severn Elementary School's Lego Robotics club competed at their very first event, as a rookie team, at the qualifying competition on Saturday, Jan. 18th, held at CPP Middle School. There were 16 teams from Corning and the surrounding area competing with their robots and their innovation projects, which they presented before a panel of judges.
Severn teacher Mrs. Laurie Moyer said, "This team of 4th grade students, led by Mrs. Marchionda, was in third place after two rounds of
robot games, competing against teams composed of 4th-8th graders. They ended up being bumped one spot and finished in 4th place for the day - an amazing accomplishment for a team and coach that had no prior experience! Beyond that, Mrs. Marchionda was awarded the Coach/Mentor Award, and the team was awarded the Breakthrough Award for their team spirit, demonstration of core values, and in celebration of all they learned this year."
Way to go Roadrunners!
