Identity and the Artist 2022 is a collaboration between the Rockwell Museum and the High School Learning Center. It took place on Tuesday, September 27th.
This culminating event of a special multi-media art program provided students an opportunity for self-reflection and community-building with their peers, teachers, professional artists and musicians.
Each year, students use The Rockwell’s art collection to serve as inspiration to create papier-maché masks and write personal monologues. The holistic creative process encourages students to build meaningful relationships and incorporate nature-themed metaphors and symbols into their art connected to their identities. Students read their monologues while their classmates interpret their masks through movement, accompanied by live music. The presentation also featured the High School Learning Center Band.
Congratulations to Ariell, Salem, Gabe, McKavery, Gavin, Olivia, Langstin, Luca and Emma. Special thanks also to musicians Jennifer Johnson and Lou Vogel and teaching artist Meghan O'Toole. Also participating was HSLC teacher Carol Howard. Performing at the conclusion of the event was the HSLC Band consisting of teacher Dave Quackenbush, Band Assistant Josh Wray and students Megan, Liv, Emily, Grant and Dom. Special thanks to CPP teacher Brian Ellison and Amy Ruza, Youth and Family Programs Educator at the Rockwell Museum.
